When she was a little girl, Kateryna could spend hours performing ‘operations’ on her toys, because she dreamed of a very serious profession - a surgeon. Then when going to school, she wanted to become a lawyer. In the end, she entered Zaporizhzhia University as a ‘foreign language & literature teacher; translator’ completing her master's degree there. Afterwards she joined a law firm, yet not as a lawyer but a translator. She was working there before the war. She also combined this work with tutoring - she taught children English and German.

Kateryna came to Prague in March 2022 with her children; son Petryk and daughter Varya. The family was lucky. Her husband already had been working in Prague for 18 months, before the war. So now they are all here together.

The second time that Kateryna was extremely lucky was when she managed to get a position as an English teacher at the same school where her children study. This significantly eases life because there is no need to be torn between work and children. Before that, Kateryna worked as a teacher's assistant in another school throughout last year.

The family don’t plan to return to Ukraine just yet, because it is still very dangerous in Zaporizhzhia. Therefore Kateryna plans to improve her knowledge of the Czech language in order to become more fluent for her professional and everyday life.
