It is important for me not only to earn, but also to be useful

As a child, Olga Sereda dreamed of shining in public, of being someone, such as an actress. But when she grew up, she went to study not at an acting academy but at the economics faculty, majoring in ‘International Business Management.’
She didn't have to manage an international business but she did manage her own. For the 5 years previous to the full-scale Russian invasion of 2022, Olga Sereda had a cosy cafe-shop where you could buy homemade confectionery.
Olga came to the Czech Republic with her two daughters in March 2022. Immediately after her arrival, she started learning the Czech language, because it appealed to her. At first, she didn't think about work, because she hoped that she would soon return to Kyiv, so only started actively looking for a place to apply her knowledge and skills by the beginning of 2023.
"It was a difficult path. After all, it was important for me not only to earn, but also to be useful. First of all, for Ukrainian refugees," says Olga.
Therefore, initially she sent her resumes to non-profit organisations, as at that time their values coincided with hers. And thereafter Olga managed to find her dream job. She works as a communications coordinator for the non-profit organisation; Amiga-migrant, which primarily provides psychological assistance to Ukrainian refugees.
Olga is optimistic about her future:
"I don't want to look far. I can plan something only before the beginning of the coming new year. I am learning Czech, I think that I will be able to continue working in my current position. If I return to Kyiv, I am sure that thanks to the experience I gained in Prague, I will be able to contribute to large and useful projects there as well."
